Thoughts on Pokémon remakes

With Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire on the way, I think I should take some time and talk about remakes.

Ever since Gamefreak remade Pokémon Red & Blue (FireRed & LeafGreen) Pokéfans began hoping for remakes of the other Pokémon games.
And when Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver (remakes of Pokémon Gold & Silver) were announced/released remakes have become expected by fans.

But When is appropriate to remake a game?
How long is long enough?

The answers to those questions vary depending on who you're asking.
I personally don't know how to answer that question.
And to be honest I don't know how I feel about remakes.

Sure they're exciting since I get to replay a game I love, but that's the problem...
I'm replaying a game.

Wouldn't it make just as much sense to pick up an old Gameboy GamePak and play the originals I grew up playing?

Well, the older the game, the harder it is to come by.

And not everyone has the luxury of owning an original Gameboy Color with every Pokémon game.

So in this case, remakes are a welcome substitute.

It gives new fans explore a part of Pokémon history, while giving older fans a chance to re-explore a familiar game with enhance graphics and new mechanics.

So how do I feel? I'm leaning more on the welcoming side, but it still makes me think of what they're going to remake next.
Diamond and Pearl?
Red and Blue again?

I don't know but I have ORAS pre-ordered and I'm looking forward to playing them.
