Thoughts on the New Power Rangers Movie

As some of you may (or may not) have heard, there is a new Power Rangers movie in the works.
The movie is being developed by Saban and Lionsgate.

This scares me.
Whenever Hollywood decides to make an movie adaptation of something I grew up with, the results are usually less than stellar.

The adaptation of The Power Rangers is supposed to have a much darker tone.
How they're going to manage making a bunch of "teenagers" in colorful spandex "dark" is beyond me.

They said that this movie will reboot the franchise.
I'm not sure if they're planning to have the same characters just played by different actors, or they're going with a new set of characters entirely.
I'd prefer the latter.

I'd prefer that this takes place in an "alternate universe".
This will give writers more creative freedom, which will hopefully translate to a much better movie.

I really hope that they don't decide to bring back the original actors to reprise their roles.

The worst thing they can do is have Jason David Frank come back as Tommy Oliver and have him lead the new team.
What will probably happen then is the Power Rangers will be in danger, they will close to being defeated, and Tommy will come in to save the day.

Cameos would be nice, but no more than that. Let the new team stand or fall on its own.
